International Business Expansion

Supporting Italian companies seeking growth beyond national borders

For many Italian small and medium-sized enterprises, the domestic market is no longer sufficient to sustain growth. International expansion is no longer a strategy reserved for large industrial groups: for a growing number of businesses, it has become a natural path towards continued development.

Trade data clearly indicate where this growth is shifting. According to Italian foreign trade statistics, the ASEAN region is seeing growing demand for higher-technology products, premium consumer goods, design and industrial know-how—precisely the areas in which Italian businesses excel.

Many of these countries have also introduced legal frameworks designed to protect and encourage foreign direct investment, together with tax regimes that are significantly more favourable than those generally prevailing in Europe.

How we support businesses

Our assistance covers every stage of the international expansion process, from the initial assessment through to the day-to-day management of overseas operations.

  • Preliminary assessment of the legal and regulatory framework of the target jurisdiction and available market-entry structures (direct exports, distribution, commercial agency, permanent establishment or locally incorporated company).
  • Identification and due diligence of local business partners, including through our network of correspondent lawyers and other professionals.
  • Drafting and negotiation of international distribution, agency, supply and licensing agreements.
  • Legal and tax assistance with the incorporation of limited liability companies and the procurement of foreign investment licences and approvals.
  • Structuring of corporate joint ventures, including shareholders’ agreements, governance arrangements and exit mechanisms.
  • Protection of industrial and intellectual property rights, including trademark and patent registration, anti-counterfeiting measures and the safeguarding of proprietary know-how.
  • Advice on export finance, investment protection and financial guarantees, including coordination with public-sector instruments supporting internationalisation.
  • Advice on customs duties, rules of origin and free trade zones.
  • Management of cross-border disputes and international commercial arbitration.

Our international experience

The firm has assisted Italian companies in negotiations for the distribution of their products and in developing overseas investment projects. It has established experience particularly in the Middle East, a region that now also serves as a logistics and financial hub for trade routes into Asian markets.

We work in English and collaborate with lawyers and other professionals in the relevant jurisdictions on matters of local law. Our role is to provide Italian entrepreneurs with a single point of contact: translating commercial opportunities into sound, sustainable legal structures and supporting those structures over time.

We advise private businesses, public authorities and professionals on technically complex matters, both in the advisory and dispute-prevention stages and in proceedings before the ordinary civil courts, administrative courts and the Italian Court of Auditors.

Continuous professional development, combined with extensive practical experience, enables us to address emerging legal issues and matters involving particularly innovative legislative or regulatory developments.
